ISLAMABAD, Feb 10: The Election Commission on Friday asked the ticket holders of parties for the Senate elections to attach their tickets while submitting nomination forms.
Nomination papers will be received for three days from Saturday to fill half of the 100-seat Senate.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has directed the candidates to attach party tickets while submitting their nomination papers to the returning officers.
Those who don’t submit the tickets with the forms will have to furnish those during scrutiny of nomination papers if they want to contest as party candidates.
The certificate or ticket should be issued by the head of the political party concerned.
Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Mohammad Dilshad said the candidates would have to file their papers in person and presence of the proposers and seconders was mandatory at the time of scrutiny of the papers.
Kanwar Dilshad said the Representation of Peoples Act 1973 was amended in July 2003, making presence of the candidate mandatory for filing nomination paper.
The election for two seats from Islamabad and four from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas will be held on March 4 in the National Assembly. The provincial assemblies will elect 11 Senators each on March 6. The new senators will assume their office on March 11.
