By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 10: Candyland and Guard Rice moved into the final of the Nurpur Cup polo on Friday. Four goals by Vishal Singh supported by one and a half goal handicap helped Candyland beat Punjab Rangers 8 1/2-7.

The winners made a stormy start as they scored four times in the first chukker to gain 5 1/2-0 lead.

Asif Tiwana drew the first blood, converting a 40-yard penalty hit followed by back-to-back field goals by Vishal and one by Ahmed Ali Tiwana.

Rangers retaliated in the second chukker and reduced the margin to 7 1/2-4.

Five-goal Jota Chavanne and Kaiser Trimzi scored two goals each for the losers. Vishal added his third goal while Asif his second for the winners.

The losers further cut the lead to 8 1/2-6 in the third chukker, as Chavanne fired home two goals in quick succession before Vishal slammed in his fourth.

Chavanne scored his fifth and the solitary goal of the fourth chukker to only reduce the margin but failed to save his team from defeat.

Guard Rice overcame the challenge of Army Waste Buster with aggregate 14-12 1/2 in an eight-chukker match, played over two days.

Earlier, the two teams had played first four chukkers on Tuesday in which Guard Rice were leading 6- 4 1/2.

Both the teams scored eight goals, each in the second part of four chukkers.

Five-goal Dhruvpal Godara stole the limelight for Guard Rice. AWB had reduced the lead to a half goal (7-6 1/2) in the fifth chukker by scoring twice against one they conceded.

Saqib Khan Khakwani and Mujahid Omar Khan were their scorers.

Raja Samiullah scored for the winners.

Three goals by Godara in the sixth chukker consolidated the lead of the winners (10- 8 1/2) in the sixth chukker.

Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana and Mujahid scored one goal each for the losers.

In the seventh chukker AWB replaced Saqib Khan Khakwani with Umar Sadik and managed to narrow the margin (12-10 1/2).

Saqib was replaced when he had contributed a goal in the beginning of the chukker.

Ahmad Nawaz scored another for the losers.

Godara struck his third goal for the winners while Iftikhar Al Khan chipped in one.

In the eighth chukker both sides scored twice as Guard Rice won. Godara scored both two for the winners while Mujahid replied for the losers.
