KARACHI, Feb 10: The Malir People’s Alliance has been formed to protest against the rising incidents of kidnappings for ransom, dacoities, and other incidents of lawlessness.
The leaders of the alliance, speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Friday announced to stage a public meeting on Sunday on Superhighway, near Kathore to protest against the increasing lawlessness and failure of authorities to protect life and property of the people.
Those present at the press conference were Abdul Hakim Baloch , Yusuf Masti Khan of National Workers Party, Mohammad Sajid Jokhio- MPA and Salman Murad of PPP, Ali Hasan Chandio of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party and Shafi Mohammad Jamote, ex-chairman of district council.
The alliance leaders stated that after sunset cultivators, businessmen, and common man could not travel from fear of kidnapping. Gadap Town, and Bin Qasim Town, particularly rural areas of Karachi, had become insecure due to increasing incidents of kidnappings.
The local councillors and people had staged demonstration to draw attention of the authorities but to no avail.
Pointing out that only last week Maula Bux Baloch and his friend Shaaban Kalore were picked up by outlaws while a month back Fayyaz Gul along with his colleagues were kidnapped from Old Police station area but the police had failed to locate their whereabouts. They regretted that neither police parties have been formed, nor any initiative had been taken to track down the culprits.
They recalled that last year also many people were kidnapped, including Shahid Rasool, Abdul Whab Gabol, and Ghulam Rasool Baloch who were released after payment of ransom money.
They said that while kidnappings for ransom cases and dacoities were on the rise, drugs are also being sold and land mafia was encroaching upon even leased land.
Moreover, cases of snatching of motorcycles were on the rise between Northern Bypass and Steel Town.
Giving another example of lawlessness, they said although there was a ban extraction of reti-bajri, but daily about 6000 tones of reti-bajri was being taken away illegally under the patronage of police. They also claimed that the authorities were demolishing old villages by cancelling their leases.
