KHAIRPUR, Feb 8: Sindh People’s Party Parliamentarians president Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that meetings of party boards in the four provinces will be held soon to finalize names of candidates for the Senate election.
Talking to party workers here on Tuesday night, he said the PPP and other parties were struggling to ensure holding of free and fair general elections next year.
He alleged that during the recent local body elections, police had forced people at gunpoint to vote for government-back candidates.
He claimed that a big change in the political scenario would occur with Benazir Bhutto’s return to the country.
He said the amendment to the Constitution prohibiting a person from becoming the prime minister for the third time had been made by the Gen Musharraf government and it did not have any importance because it could be repealed through parliament.
The PPP leader blamed the government for the sugar crisis, saying sugarcane crushing had been delayed for two months and the government had failed to resolve issues between growers and sugar mill owners.
He said the increase in sugar price had created problems for the poor.
He alleged that jobs were being sold out, instead of ensuring merit in selection.
