Lewis replaces McGrath

SYDNEY, Feb 7: Victoria fast bowler Mick Lewis has been recalled to the Australian squad for the limited-overs one-day finals series against Sri Lanka starting in Adelaide on Friday.

The twice-capped 31-year-old was added to the 14-man squad when Glenn McGrath withdrew from the finals after his wife was diagnosed with cancer.

“As we said last week, the selection panel is prepared to give Glenn as much time as he needs at this very difficult time,” Australia’s chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said in a statement.

“Mick Lewis is a quality bowler and as we saw in New Zealand at the back end of last year, he can be really effective at the end of an innings.

The first final will take place in Adelaide on Friday with the second match in Sydney on Sunday.

A third match, if required, is scheduled for Brisbane next Tuesday.

Squad: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain), Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brett Dorey, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, Mike Hussey, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Michael Lewis, Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds.—Reuters
