KARACHI: Boycott of EU products urged

Published February 8, 2006

KARACHI, Feb 7: A large number of women and children belonging to the Sunni Tehreek (ST) on Tuesday held a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press against the publication of blasphemous cartoons in Danish, French and other European newspapers.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with demands to end diplomatic relations with countries, whose papers had published the blasphemous images besides boycott of their products, the protesting women and children chanted slogans against Denmark and other EU countries.

They also torched the national flags of Denmark, France, Norway and other EU countries and demanded that death penalty be given to those who had committed the blasphemy.

A large number of small children also participated in the protest. They too were carrying placards, inscribed with demands of capital punishment for persons who had prepared and published the blasphemous cartoons in their newspapers.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Zubaida of the ST Women Wing said women and children of the Islamic world were ready to sacrifice their lives to protect the sanctity of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and said that no one would be allowed to commit blasphemy or ridicule the Prophet (SAW).

She demanded President Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to break diplomatic ties with all countries where the blasphemous images had been published and called for their boycott on all fronts.—PPI
