KARACHI: Minister takes notice of delay in IT project
KARACHI, Feb 7: Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro has taken notice of the delay in the launching of the IT project and ordered the authorities concerned to expedite the work on the IT/Computer Science project by establishing computer laboratories in the 206 high schools of the province.
She said this at a meeting with Sindh Education Secretary Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha, the newly posted Project Director Alam Din Bullo and RSU Chief Programme Manager Iqbal Hussain Durrani, and others at her office on Tuesday.
Under the project in question, at a cost of Rs347 million the computer laboratories are to be established in 206 high schools of Sindh for which the federal government is providing 50 per cent of the funds while the provincial government has to bear the rest of the amount.
The minister was informed that the recruitment of 206 IT teachers and 206 lab assistants had been completed.
Only the approval of the competent authority is needed for the purpose. It was also informed that the tenders for the procurement of equipment and furniture etc had also been re-called and were in the final stages.
Dr Khuhro ordered that these computer labs be completed on top priority basis. She has also taken very serious note of the complaints regarding the collection of fees by some private schools in Karachi.
The minister instructed the director private schools, education department, to take cognizance of the situation and report immediately.—APP
