KARACHI, Feb 7: The Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Town Municipal Officer, Matanat Ali Khan, on the directive of Town Nazim Muhammad Wasay Jalil has cancelled the leaves of all concerned staff and said the Awami Markaz Khidmat would continue to function during holidays.

Moreover, the staff of sewerage, solid waste, mechanical and electric, and water and sewerage departments have been deployed in three shifts, said a statement on Tuesday.

A complaint centre with telephone numbers 9230355-59 will also function to receive complaints.

Meanwhile, work to level roads from where mourning procession will pass has been completed, and carpeting of five lanes of Abbas Town has also been accomplished. Work to put slabs on a drainage line passing the University Road near Time Square will be completed by the next day.

The town administration has adopted special measures of ensuring cleanliness around imambargahs and mosques and routes of the mourning procession, besides installation of streetlights there.

Town Nazim Wasay Jalil has appealed to the people that in view of the sanctity of the month of Muharram, they should maintain an atmosphere of peace and keep watch on and identify miscreants who could create any law and order situation. And in case of any untoward incident, the same should immediately be reported to law enforcing agencies.

Meanwhile, the town administration, taking prompt action, has removed over 50 encroachments that re-surfaced near the Jauher Complex.

The town nazim has warned of stern action against those involved in re-encroachments.

SADDAR TOWN: The municipal administration of Saddar Town on Tuesday completed arrangements for cleanliness and lighting along the routes of Ashura processions at imambargahs and places of Sham-i-Ghariban.

The Building and Roads Department of the town carried out road carpeting and repair of footpaths besides repair of high masts around imambargahs and streetlights in adjoining streets.

The municipal staff has removed objectionable posters and provocative wall chalking.

A spokesman for the town said that sewerage staff would remain on duty on the 9th and 10th of Muharram to check any leakages while continuous supply of water to imambargahs and sabeels would be ensured.

The Town Nazim, Mohammed Dilawar, along with Naib Nazim Nasir Taimuri, TMO Mukhtar Hussain and other officials visited the Hussainian Iranian imambargah, Bolton Market, Denso Hall, Khaliqdina Hall, Tibet Centre, Burnes Road, Regal Chowk, Preedy Street, Empress Market and other places in detail and reviewed arrangements there.

For a continuous monitoring of arrangements, an emergency control room is functioning round the clock at the central office at Khayal Das Park near Haqqani Chowk. It can be contacted on telephone numbers 9211429 and 9211390.—APP
