PESHAWAR, Feb 6: Inzamamul Haq on Monday admitted that he was totally unaware of the rule that resulted in his unusual dismissal in the first One-day International against India.
“I was not aware of the exact rules. That’s why I stopped the ball with the bat,” said Inzamam who was declared out for obstructing the field by Australian umpire Simon Taufel, who gave the judgement after consulting with home umpire Asad Rauf.
Commenting on Pakistan’s victory, he said that it was wonderful. He particularly praised Salman Butt and Shoaib Malik for their heroics. The two laid the foundation for the team’s success.
Indian captain Rahul Dravid also believed that during the last 10 overs of Indian innings, the batsmen failed to score required runs and that was why Pakistan succeeded to chase the target.
Dravid also defended the decision of sending Irfan Pathan and Dhoni in the opening part of the game, and said that after observing that the pitch was good for batting he deliberately sent pinch hitters to amass quick runs.
He also termed dropping of catches, losing of toss along with scoring fewer runs in last 10 overs as the major reasons behind Indian defeat in the match.
