LAHORE, Feb 6: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has summoned the Pakistan Railways high-ups in Islamabad on Wednesday (Feb 8).
“Railways’ failure to ensure the safety of passengers has been taken seriously by the prime minister,” sources told Dawn on Monday.
The prime minister, they said, directed the railway ministry to explain the reasons for derailment of two passenger trains in a week or so.
The railway high-ups remained busy on Monday collecting details of the condition of the track, funds required for repair of the network, data about the number of gangmen and PR police personnel deployed on patrol duty etc, they said.
“They will be gathering at the ministry of railways on Tuesday (today) to discuss and finalize presentations,” the sources said.
Railways Minister Mian Shamim Haider will preside over the ‘preparatory’ meeting at the ministry likely to be attended by PR Board chairman Shakil Durrani, general-manager (operations) Saleemur Rahman Akhoond, besides other senior officers.
