TAXILA, Feb 6: Hoarding, profiteering and artificial shortage of sugar continues in Taxila and Wah Cantonment putting the consumers in great trouble. A large number of consumers complained to this reporter that the hoarders and profiteers had stocked up on sugar and selling it at exorbitant rates. The commodity is selling at Rs39-40 per kilogramme in city areas, while in rural and far-flung areas it is being sold at Rs42-43 per kilogramme.
The consumers allege that the hoarders and big stockists had squeezed sugar supply thus causing an abnormal increase in the price of the commodity. The said that the price of the commodity had registered an increase of Rs8-10, as barely a week back it was selling at Rs28- 30 per kg.—Correspondent
