KARACHI: Security guard shot dead

KARACHI, Feb 6: A security guard was shot dead on Monday by an employee of a private company, where the guard was posted in Samnabad. Police said Arif and his manager Arshad Waheed, employees of a leasing company, had some a dispute with security guard Umar Farooq.

During the exchange of hot words, Arif snatched the weapon from the guard and shot him thrice and fled. The wounded security guard was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment.

Police said Arif gave the weapon to Arshad Waheed before escaping. Police arrested Arshad and seized the weapon from him. Raids were being conducted to nab Arif, police said.

PHONE THIEVES: Police on Monday night arrested two cellphone thieves picking pockets in a Muharram procession in the Ancholi area.

The SHO of Samabad said that participants of the procession caught hold of the two suspects who had stolen cellphone from the pocket of Syed Kazim Naqvi. When police interrogated the two suspects identified as Kaleem and Asim, they revealed that they had come from Rahimyar Khan for picking pockets for cellphones in the Muharram processions and were staying in Lee Market.

The suspects also confessed to stealing cellphones in the same area a day earlier, the SHO said. Two stolen cellphones were recovered from their possession, police added.
