KARACHI, Feb 6: The Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, has asked the private candidates having submitted faulty or incomplete examination forms for SSC (General Group) annual exams 2006 to report to it at the earliest for rectification.
Fixing February 25 as the last date for the removal of objections in the forms, the board said that forms of those candidates failing to report to the concerned section at the board would be rejected and examination fees deposited by such candidates would not be refunded.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday at the board, BIE controller Mohammad Salim Khan said that the board had received 2,527 examination forms of General group from private candidates, which had not duly been filled or lacked the required information as well.
The forms which were accepted at the designated bank branches of the board, were handed over to the account section and now after scrutiny it was revealed that 250 of the candidates had not mentioned their contact or postal addresses at all, while another 277 examination forms contained names of some coaching centres in the column pertaining to residential address, he added, saying as per the BIE’s requirement students are required to mention their residential addresses in the forms.
Moreover, he informed that 2,000 examination forms were submitted without giving candidates’ registration number or enclosing photocopy of registration card or permission letter. In view of experiences of previous years, now it has been decided that forms short of registration or permission details will not be entertained for any practical purpose and as such candidates would not be issued provisional admit card at all or their results will be declared, but they would be required to furnish related information prior to the commencement of the examinations, he said.
According to the controller, in the past, the board used to issue provisional admit card and also declared the results, but did not issue mark sheets or certificates. He also referred to about 1,000 of 2005 examination with similar discrepancies and said that candidates concerned had been failing to submit registration or permission letter, despite the fact that they took exams.
Replying to questions, Mr Khan said that he understood that candidates had been able to submit the faulty forms, without any scrutiny or endorsement by section concerned of the board, through banks in rush. The number of faulty ones constitutes almost 25 per cent of the total forms received from private candidates and in this regard the possibilities of malpractices or mafia’s involvement cannot be ruled out, he added, saying that it was strange that candidates instead of giving their residential addresses wrote the address of some coaching centres only.
He said that the BIE was also contemplating not to accept the forms of private candidates through bank branches as it also brought some management problems and hindered transparency in the conduct of exams.
Coming on to the SSC annual exams 2006, he said that examinations would be held from April 18 to May 4, exclusively for Class X students and failure of Class IX papers held in 2005. A composite examination for Class IX and X students will be held from 2007 and onwards, he added.
Meanwhile, the Board of Secondary Education, Karachi, has decided to give one more chance to those candidates who had their last chance in the SSC supplementary exams 2005 but failed to clear all the papers.
A BSEK notification on Monday said that the chairman had allowed acceptance of examination forms of the candidates as a special case, who had their last chance in the SSC supplementary exams 2005, Science and General Groups (regular and private) from Feb 16 to 28, without late fine.
In the meantime, the BSEK has informed the heads of its recognized secondary schools that the status quo pertaining to the conduct of Sindhi Salees (compulsory) and Urdu Normal Course (compulsory) with the scheme of Class IX and Class X composite exams 2007 shall be maintained.
