LAHORE, Feb 5: Victory Road justified favouritism when she landed the 1000 Guineas Of Pakistan Classic outclassing the field at the flood-lit Racecourse before a large crowd on Sunday.

Trained by A. B. Malik and ridden by Shahid Rehman, the superbly-bred filly from Re Play out-of-Coxswain, showed no problem with the 1600 metres distance romping to a clear four lengths victory over Trace Hit, ridden by M. Hanif.

She took up the running with 300 metres to go and held off the challenge from Trace Hit.

Decent Proposal finished third while Key Guy Doll completed the frame among nine starters. The winner equalled the record fastest time of one minute 39 4/5 seconds for the event set up by Height Of Happiness last year.

The success of Victory Road gave jockey Shahid Rehman, his fourth triumph in this premier Classic for the fillies and underlined her Pakistan Derby credentials.

Earlier, Poly Dunit ran a splendid race to capture the Nero Cup run over 1400 metres.

Ridden by M. Hanif she beat favourite Alexander by over three lengths. After the race, the owner of Alexander, Safdar Hussain complained to LRC stewards that jockey Aamar Parvaiz did not ride his colt on merit in the race.

After listening to owner and examining the jockey the stewards ordered an inquiry.

Bay filly Big Show really performed worth her name when she won the Anarkali Cup run over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.

Ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman the filly was trained by Amjad Ali (II).

The TRM Cup for imported thoroughbreds was annexed by bay English colt Benzine, who beat Ponente by about four lengths. Dixie Queen and Colonial Girl completed the board.

Riders M. Hanif and Shahid Rehman and trainers Haji Ghulam Sarwar and Sohail Aziz claimed day’s honours.

Hanif rode four winners, Shahid two while Haji Sarwar sent out three winners and Sohail two.
