Amir picks up top Asian sports award

LONDON, Feb 5: Britain’s Olympic silver medallist Amir Khan been named sports personality of the year at a ceremony to honour British Asians.

Since the Olympics the 19-year-old from Bolton has turned professional, keeping his perfect record intact with his fifth KO against Belarus Vitali Martynov last month.

Eight-year-old football prodigy Nikhil Rawal was named young Asian sports personality of the year.

Premiership clubs Chelsea and Arsenal are both fighting over the youngster, from Harrow, north-west London.

He has been offered a two-year contract to join Arsenal’s under-nines academy but is currently training with Chelsea.—Agencies
