LAHORE, Feb 5: Zahid Khan won the 22nd Governor’s Cup golf trophy title after being locked with second day leader Tashfeen Ashraf at 205, each at Lahore Gymkhana course on Sunday.
Zahid, an eight handicapper, who was two strokes behind Tashfeen when he teed off on the third day, posted a card of 67. Tashfeen returned with a card of 69 to be tied up.
But Zahid was declared winner on the basis of producing the best card on the final day. For Zahid it was his first victory in a major contest.
He started the competition with an unimpressive card of 73 on the first day but improved his aggregate by enerting the best card of 65 on Saturday.
Zahid’s final round had 13 pars while birdies on 5th and 16th and lost strokes on 4th, 6th, 13th and 18th.
In the gross section, Aadil Jehangir of Gymkhana was the winner with aggregate of 222 (75, 73 and 74).
The runner-up was Muhammad Waseem Rana, who had a score of 230. Kh. Imran Zubair came third.
Best daily net rounds went to Tanvir Najam, Imtiaz Pervaiz, Ejaz Qureshi and best daily gross rounds went to Imran Ahmed, Sardar Murad and Mohsin Zafar.
