Man shot dead; another attempts suicide

RAWALPINDI, Feb 5: A man was shot dead by two motorbike riders in the jurisdiction of Banni police while a detainee attempted suicide in a lock-up on Saturday, police said.

In the first incident, Mohammad Musa was entering his house when two motorbike riders shot him dead and sped away. Police believe that the murder was an outcome of old enmity.

In another incident, a man arrested in a brawl case attempted suicide on Saturday night, police said.

Shahid Nisar had been remanded in police custody in a brawl case. In the lock-up, Shahid started hitting his head against the bars and inflicted injuries to himself. However, the police overpowered him and shifted him to the hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile, more than one dozen passengers of a wagon were looted by robbers who blocked the road near Kotli Sattian while three cars were lifted from different parts of Rawalpindi on Saturday, police said.

Mohammad Jahangir, one of the robbery victims, told Kotli Sattian police that he was travelling in a wagon (RIR-6197) when he found the road blocked.

He said when the driver stopped the vehicle, three robbers appeared on the scene and pulled out their pistols and held the passengers at gunpoint.

The robbers snatched Rs43,000 from the passengers and disappeared in the dark.

Lt-Col Mohammad Zakreen lodged a complaint with Civil Lines police stating that his car was stolen from outside his house, Ishaq Ahmed’s car (IDG-683) was lifted from Saddar while Mohammad Asghar’s car (HT-459) was stolen from the City police area.
