Respect ICC, Shoaib urges Chappell
LAHORE, Feb 4: Miffed at Greg Chappell’s comments about his action being ‘different’, the world’s fastest bowler Shoaib Akhtar said he has been cleared by the ICC and Indian coach should respect the cricket governing body’s decision.
“Regarding Greg Chappell’s comments about my bowling action being different, it was all very unfortunate to hear. He should understand that the ICC has cleared me more than once and this thing has all been done and dusted for about four years and it is no good bringing all this stuff up again,” he wrote in his website column.
“He (Chappell) needs to respect the ICC more and understand what they have said about my bowling action. It’s disappointing that he chose to bring this issue up again,” Shoaib said.
Refusing to take the comments made by Chappell lightly, the pacer said, “I am very committed to hard work and won’t give anybody the chance to criticise me any more.”
He said he wanted to concentrate on upcoming one-day series against India and leave the issue to Pakistan Cricket Board and ICC consideration.
“The matter is with the relevant authorities now and all I can do is concentrate on the one-day series.”
Shoaib said he was happy with his performance, especially with bat, in the Test series as he has been working hard on this aspect of the game.
“Talking of batting, I am pleased with my form. I scored 47 and 45 in the series and although it was a shame I didn’t go on to score my first Test fifty, I’m pleased that I was able to contribute to the team and score important runs when we needed them.”
The fast bowler believes that the one-day series will produce some exciting cricket and hoped that “Sachin continues his poor form for our sake but being so good I wouldn’t be surprised if he scored some big runs again soon.”—Agencies
