MMA, ARD join hands for Senate polls

Published February 5, 2006

LAHORE, Feb 4: The MMA will support ARD candidates in the Senate elections in Punjab to be held in the first week of March.

This was decided at a meeting of the two alliances here on Saturday.

In return, the religious parties’ alliance expects the ARD will support its candidates in the NWFP and Sindh.

MMA’s Liaquat Baloch, Ehsanullah Waqas and Azhar Iqbal Hasan, PPP’s Qasim Zia and Naveed Chaudhry and PML-N’s Ishaq Dar, Rana Sanaullah Khan and Pervaiz Malik participated in the meeting.

The two alliances believe that their cooperation in the Senate elections can reduce the ruling party into a minority in the upper house.

Outgoing Senator Ishaq Dar will be the PML-N’s candidate from Punjab.

On the other hand, the PML-N has asked the PPP to put up its candidates on seats for technocrats and women.
