GILGIT, Feb 4: A number of foreign companies have shown interest in investment in the Northern Areas and have applied for mining lease, an official said. Secretary Minerals, Industries and Environment Dr Imran Afzal Cheema told APP here on Saturday that many foreign firms had sent requests for starting projects in the mineral sector.
Dr Imran said the government was offering attractive incentives for investment in the Northern Areas and Korean and German companies had requested for the investment.
He said the government was committed to the socio-economic development of the country to open job opportunities for the unemployed youth.
He said they would be allowed to start their operation after the requisite criteria.
He said the government was working to attract foreign investment in the area.
DOCUMENTARY: The tourism department of the Northern Areas is making a documentary film to project its snow-capped peaks, natural scenic sites and mountains, official said.
The film would highlight the areas where various kinds of projects could be started to open business spots with the point of view of tourists, the sources said.
They said the Northern Areas had immense potential to attract large number of tourists and investors.
ENTRY TEST: The Karakoram International University (KIU) has scheduled its entry test for admission in new academic session for Feb 6, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.
According to KIU, the entry test would be held for graduate and post-graduate classes while the results of the test would be displayed on Feb 10.
The fee will be received till Feb 17. The new academic session will begin on Feb 20.
