KARACHI: Fishermen end strike

KARACHI, Feb 4: Small boat owners on Saturday decided to end their strike following their representatives’ meeting with Shujaat Ali Qarni, a member of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) managing committee representing the Sindh government.

About 5,000 small fishing boats, locally known as ‘horras’, had started the strike on Friday. Such horras start operating early in the morning and return to the harbour by 4pm. There are about 5,000 larger fishing boats also operating from the local harbour. Chairman of the Boat-owners Association Haji Mir Khan said that the decision about the strike by operators of larger fishing boats would be taken later.—APP
