Raids to arrest car thieves

THATTA, Feb 2: A joint team of Thatta and Hyderabad police conducted raids on Thursday for arrest of a car lifters’ gang which was working with the help of ruling party leader.

Thatta investigation SP Mohammad Azeem Ghoto told Dawn that two outlaws, Rehman Burfat and Asif, who had been arrested recently near Saeedabad along with a stolen car of Sindh chief minister’s adviser for forests Aijaz Ali Shah Shirazi, disclosed before police about whereabouts of the gang.

He said that on Wednesday night police conducted raids on residences of the PML leader in Kohistan and the game warden in the Dadu district, Naseem Nagar in Hyderabad and another residence in Jamshoro and collected some evidences.

SP Ghoto said the arrested criminals who were residents of Thatta told police that they had been stealing and hijacking cars and other vehicles from Thatta, Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Jamshoro, Karachi and some other areas of upper Sindh.

They hid the snatched cars at the houses of the PML leader for some time and then took them to Balochistan, the SP revealed. He said the gang comprised Manzoor Khan, Ranjho Burfat, Waheed Soomro, Babloo Mirani and others.
