Danish envoy summoned

ISLAMABAD, Feb 2: The Foreign Office has said that Pakistan protested to Denmark against the publication of blasphemous cartoons in a Danish newspaper. Foreign Office spokesperson said this while talking to BBC on Thursday.

The spokesperson said the Danish ambassador had been called to the Foreign Office soon after the publication of cartoons. The government is in contact with the Danish government over this issue, she said.

The spokesperson hoped that the Danish government would take into consideration the fact that freedom of expression did not mean hurting sentiments of billion of Muslims. When it was pointed out that the cartoons had been published in newspapers of several other European countries, she said Foreign Office would express its views later.—Online
