SHIKARPUR, Feb 1: A man was killed in a clash between Mahar and Jatoi tribesmen in the Sadiq-ji-Wandh village, Lakhi Ghulam Shah taluka, on Tuesday night. One Hafiz Irshad Ahmed Mahar, 25, was killed in the firing when a group of people from the Kamalani Jatoi tribe armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket launchers, attacked the village.
Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The Rustam police have registered a case against 40 Jatoi tribesmen, including Ghazi, Gullan, Sikandar and Abdul Khaliq.
About 20 people belonging to the Kamalani Jatoi tribe were picked up by police after conducting raids on different villages situated in kachcha areas.
The DPO of Shikarpur, Farooq Ahmed Jamali, told newsmen that police were raiding various places in kachcha areas and expected early arrest of the culprits, although they had vacated their houses.
He said MPA Abid Hussain Khan Jatoi has assured police of help of arresting the remaining accused involved in the incident.
The district nazim of Shikarpur, Mohammad Arif Mahar, has directed the DPO to arrest absconders and take preventive measure to avert expansion of tribal feud in the district.
LAW AND ORDER: In order to ensure peace and calm in the district during Muharram, a high level meeting was held here on Wednesday which was presided over by the district nazim Mohammad Arif Mahar.
The meeting discussed steps to maintain law and order and decided to renew the permits issued in past for holding Majlis and allowed the same routes for taking out Tazias and Matami processions.
The meeting also decided to deploy heavy contingents of police at sensitive points in the district during the Ashura.
The meeting also stressed upon the Hesco management and taluka municipal administrations to ensure power supply without any break and cleanliness of the city during the Muharram.
Among others, Shikarpur DCO Khwaja Shafiq Ahmed, taluka nazims, police officers and leaders both Shias and Sunnis sects attended the meeting.
