KARACHI, Feb 1: The officials of provincial education and literacy department and office-bearers of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association in a meeting on Wednesday decided to move against coaching and tuition centres operating illegally in the province.
A new law would be introduced in the province to take action against the tuition centres, functioning without registration, acquiring services of government lecturers unlawfully, charging huge fee from students and evading income tax, the meeting decided.
Sindh Education Secretary Ghulam Ali Pasha, Additional Secretary Riaz Memon, Deputy Secretary Pervez Sehar, SPLA office-bearers Prof Manzoor Hussain Chishti, Athar Hussain Mirza, Iftikhar Muhammad Azami, Shafqat Jokhio, Muhsin Raza and others attended the meeting, a SPLA release said.
They also decided that guidance and counselling offices for students would be established at colleges besides introducing the subjects in science and arts faculties at degree colleges that could help students in their professional life. Moreover, the universities of the province would be recommended to introduce semester system at degree colleges.
The meeting further decided that education department would approach finance department for upgrading the 243 posts under four-tier formula; filling the posts lying vacant at 17 colleges; and lifting the ban on payment of arrears to the employees of education department.—PPI
