GUJRANWALA, Jan 31: A team of National Accountability Bureau, Islamabad on Tuesday seized the record of former city tehsil council regarding auction of contracts and various development schemes.

Reports said about a dozen naib nazims of the council sent a reference to NAB regarding embezzlement in the auction of various contracts and development schemes.

The tehsil council had been divided into Nandipur and Khiali Shahpur towns along with the concerned record. However, the NAB team seized all the record from two towns and recorded statements of some officials.

Further investigation is under way.

DCO: District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat on Tuesday expressed dissatisfaction over the construction work on water courses and directed to accelerate it.

Presiding over a meeting here, the DCO also reviewed the ongoing development schemes.

The DCO asked the executive district officers to monitor the uplift schemes in their areas and directed the district officer (social welfare) to form 1,000 citizen community boards within one month.

BUDGET APPROVED: The Wazirabad tehsil council on Tuesday approved Rs94.7 million budget for fiscal year 2005-06 and allocated Rs11.6 million for development schemes.

Tehsil Naib Nazim Chaudhry Muhammad Yousaf presided over the budget meeting while finance committee convener Muhammad Aslam Qamer presented the budget.

Speaking on the occasion, Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Nawazish Ali Cheema said the Punjab government would provide Rs60 million for welfare and development while all pending plans of water supply and sewerage would be completed on priority basis.

UPLIFT FUNDS: Local government institutions are awaiting release of development funds by the Punjab government for the execution of uplift schemes.

This was stated by nazims of union councils at a meeting here on Tuesday. They said if funds were not released at the earliest, uplift work would suffer as seven months of the current fiscal had already elapsed.
