KARACHI: Development of women top priority, says Nasreen
KARACHI, Jan 31: The city’s Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, has the city government would take steps on priority basis for the economic empowerment of women.
She was speaking at the concluding session of a seminar on ‘Women Development and Youth Leadership’ held under the auspices of the city government and the Youth Social Reformers.
She said the city government in collaboration with the federal and provincial governments and the private sector would take steps on priority basis for the economic empowerment of women, adding that the development of women was inevitable for the country’s progress.
She pointed out that, for the empowerment of women, Pervez Musharraf had provided them 33 per cent representation in the assemblies and local bodies.
Nasreen said that along with males, females would also be provided equal job opportunities.
She called for bringing in a required change in thinking for the development of women, saying that the tradition of giving priority to men over women should come to an end.
She was of the view that any law that was discriminatory against women should also be brought to an end.
She believed that the present city council during its term would undertake necessary steps for bringing about positive changes in society, adding that the required legislation would also be done in this very respect.
Nasreen hoped that legislation would also be done for provision of jobs to women and the education of girls.
She said that she would recommend the city government for the formation of a Youth Council.
FRENCH CG MEETS NASREEN: The City Naib Nazim, Nasreen Jalil, says the city government is determined to resolve problems being faced by Karachiites through a consolidated strategy.
She was talking to the Consul General of France, Pierre Seillan, who called on her, said a statement on Tuesday.
She said Sindh Governor Dr Ibad and City Nazim Mustafa Kamal had paid attention to the uplift of Karachi. As a result, the investment trend has moved upwards.
Appreciating the manufacturing of French submarines in Pakistan, Nasreen said other countries should also shift their technologies to the country for continuation of uplift process.
She also congratulated Pierre Seillan on his appointment as the Consul General of France.
Talking to naib nazim, the visiting French CG praised the performance of the provincial and city governments over steps being taken regarding the law and order situation in Sindh and especially in Karachi.
He maintained that these efforts would help eliminate unemployment from the city and ultimately from the whole province.—APP
