MIRPURKHAS, Jan 30: Opposition leader in the Indian Rajaya Sabha and former foreign minister Jaswant Singh has said that the people of Pakistan and India want peace in the region.

He was speaking to newsmen at the Circuit House here on Monday following his arrival by road from the Khokhrapar-Monabao border along with his delegation.

Mirpurkhas DCO Khursheed Naeem Malik, Indian deputy high commissioner and Mirpurkhas taluka Nazim Ghulam Dastagir Khan were present on the occasion.

Mr Singh clarified that his visit was not political and he came to promote brotherhood, peace and love.

He said his delegation received warm welcome in Pakistan.

The former foreign minister said Rajasthan and Sindh would progress after restoration of the Khokhrapar-Monabao route.

Earlier, an 86-member Indian delegation comprising Jaswant Singh, Mahinder Singh, Bhowindar Singh, Nihar Singh, Dilip Singh, Chittar Singh, religious leader Pushup Dan, Okar Singh, Qaim Mahar, Faqeer Hussain Mahar, Roshan Din Sand and Sher Mohammad Nohri, relative of the Sindh chief minister, crossed the border by road.

Strict security measures were taken on the occasion.

The guests were welcomed by Umerkot district Nazim Faqeer Manghan Mangrio, Naib Nazim Kanwar Hameer Singh, Umerkot DCO Mushtaq Ahmed Shaikh and thousands of people at the zero point.

Later, the delegation reached Jhalo Jo Chaunro form where it proceeded to the Circuit House.
