Aaqil, Asghar elected as president, secretary

LAHORE, Jan 30: Syed Aaqil Shah (NWFP) and Chaudhary Mohammad Asghar (Wapda) were elected as president and secretary Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) for a term of four years.

The elections were conducted by Talat Khursheed of Higher Education Commission(HEC) after the previous president Syed Shahid Ali and four vice presidents of the federation were declared defunct for not holding the elections on due date Dec 22, 2005.

The previous PWF secretary Chaudhary Arif, however, had issued the notice of the general body meeting on Dec 20, 2005.

Shahid, who lost the seat after almost 12 years, is also the representative of International Olympic Committee (IOC) to Pakistan, and was a candidate as president POA when the elections were held in 2004, competing against Lt. Gen. (retd.) Arif Hasan, but the latter was elected after a settlement with the former.

Office-bearers:

President: Syed Aaqil Shah.

Vice-presidents: Irfan Gohar (Railways),

Syed Mohammad Saqlain (Police), Talat Khursheed (HEC), Mohammad Saleem (Sindh).

Secretary: Chaudhary Mohammad Asghar (Wapda).

Associate secretary: Manzoor Khan Kakir.

Treasurer: Mohammad Saqib.

Executive body: Chaudhary Khalid Hasan (Punjab), Abdul Qayyum (NWFP), Chaudhary Arif (Technical Official), Representative from Wapda.
