LAHORE, Jan 30: The Punjab government has allocated Rs600 million for special children’s education, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi said here on Monday.

While inaugurating the Life Care Centre for special children, he said the government was establishing such centres in 90 tehsils to provide facilities to such children near their homes.

He said to promote technical education among children, centres had been established in Lahore, Kamalia, Chiniot and Ahmad Pur Sial. These centres also offer pick-and-drop option, besides other facilities, to special children. Every child is given Rs200 monthly stipend.

He said the government was not only ensuring education for these children but it also envisaged a respectable social position for them. Teachers at these centres were being paid double the salaries being drawn by their colleagues at other schools.

The chief minister also announced Rs3 million annual grant for the centre.
