LARKANA, Jan 30: Sixty-eight girl students of schools in Naudero, Panjodero and Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto were given scholarships under the Decentralized Elementary Education Programme, sponsored by the Asian Development Bank.

Imdad Magsi, district plan coordinator, said that under the programme, Rs2,000 each would be given to students of class IX on poverty-cum-merit basis for four years.

In total, 533 cheques will be distributed to deserving girl students in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts.

Mr Magsi said that under another programme, girls studying in class XI would be given Rs3,000 per month in remote and neglected areas.

KILLED: Three people were killed in two separate incidents here on Monday.

Rahimdad Korkani, who is said to be mentally retarded, allegedly clubbed to death his sister, Hanul, and her six-year-old daughter, Salma, when his sister got late in serving him the breakfast.

Villagers captured the accused and handed him over to the Arija police.

In another incident, Mohammad Alam Jatoi, was killed when two rival groups of the Jatoi clan traded fire in the Hatri Ghulam Shah police area.

FISHERMEN: Fishermen of the Darya Shah village held a protest demonstration near Moenjodaro on Monday against allotting fishing contracts to non-fishermen in the district.

They alleged that a contractor had sprinkled poison in the Dadu Canal which had affected fish and caused fishermen losses.
