HYDERABAD, Jan 30: On the call of the party high command, workers and supporters of the People’s Party Parliamentarians staged rallies at district headquarters of interior of Sindh to protest against the issuance of red notices to Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari by Interpol.

They accused the government of fabricating false cases against Ms Bhutto and Mr Zardari. They said President Gen Pervez Musharraf was trying to misguide Interpol and added that no one could stop Ms Bhutto from returning to the country.

In Hyderabad, a huge procession was taken out from Bhurgari House. The participants later staged a sit-in outside the press club for several hours.

Speaking on the occasion, MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Pervez Ahmad Ansari, Maula Bux Chandio, Dr Tehsin Shaikh and others demanded withdrawal of the red notices against Ms Bhutto and Mr Zardari.

They claimed that the issuance of red notices was aimed at keeping Ms Bhutto away from the country which they termed pre-poll rigging.

Party workers also took out a protest procession from Lakha House and staged a sit-in on the Hyderabad road.

LARKANA: Activists of the PPP took out a protest procession which terminated outside the Jinnahbagh.

They appealed to courts to take suo motu notice of the issuance of red notices to Ms Bhutto and Mr Zardari. They demanded that Ms Bhutto should be allowed to return to the country.

MIRPURKHAS: PPP activists took out a procession from the party office here.

The protesters reached the press club where they staged a sit-in, blocking the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas road for two hours.

SANGHAR: Activists of the PPP took out a procession and observed a token hunger strike in Shahdadpur.

Party leaders said an anti-government movement would be launched in the country.

KHAIRPUR: Two processions were taken out by PPP workers here.

MPA Nawab Wassan led a procession from Wassan House to the Panj Gulla chowk where the protesters staged a sit-in.

Mr Wassan said the issuance of red notices was aimed at diverting attention of people from issues of the Balochistan operation, Kalabagh dam, unemployment and Bajaur bombing.

Another procession was led by Syed Samiullah Shah Rashidi, Syed Amjad Shah Jilani and district party’s women wing president Ghazala Siyal from Jilani House to the Panj Gulla chowk.

THATTA: A procession of the PPP marched through different streets of the town and reached the rickshaw stand on the National Highway.

MPA Sassui Palijo other party leaders said the rulers were afraid of return of Ms Bhutto to Pakistan.

SHIKARPUR: Activists of the PPP observed a token hunger strike in the Garhi Yasin town. People also kept their shops shut in Shahi Bazaar.

NAWABSHAH: Hundreds of workers of the PPP took out a procession and later staged a sit-in outside the press club.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: A large number of PPP activists took out a procession from the party office here.

Their leaders said the issuance of red notice was aimed at pressuring the PPP not to oppose the Kalabagh project and the Balochistan operation.

MITHI: A PPP procession after marching through various streets reached the town’s main chowk where the protesters staged a sit-in.

DADU: A large number of PPP activists took out a procession here.

BADIN: PPP workers, led by MPAs Dr Sikandar Ali Mandhro, Pir Amjad Ali Shah and Mohammad Nawaz Chandio, staged a rally here.

JACOBABAD: Activists of the PPP took out a procession from the Shaheed Allah Bux park.

SUKKUR: A demonstration was held by PPP activists in the city.

They also criticized what they called anti-Sindh water projects.
