KARACHI: Ombudsman concerned over sale of gutka

KARACHI, Jan 30: Sindh Ombudsman Yousuf Jamal has taken notice of ‘massive sale’ and consumption of gutka. A report was submitted to him in this regard by district police officer, Thatta, about the ban on gutka sales.

The Sindh Ombudsman has appreciated the efforts taken by the DPO Thatta in eliminating this menace.

He has further directed that all other DPOs throughout Sindh make similar efforts so that this social evil is completely eradicated.

He has further ordered that information on the confiscation of gutka and its salesmen be reported to him on a monthly basis.

A copy of the order has been sent to the provincial police officer of Sindh to be forwarded to all district police officers of the province.

The DPO Thatta has called a meeting of all of the TPOs and SHOs to direct them to eliminate the menace of gutka from district Thatta and to take stern action against anyone found selling the product.

In Sindh, one may find many adults and children indulging in this hazardous habit. Consumption of this slow poison can lead to a number of medical complications.—PPI
