LAHORE, Jan 29: Five-goal Dhruvpal Godara was instrumental in ‘Guard Rice 9-5 win over Soneri Bank in the final of the Telecom Polo Cup at LPC on Sunday. The winners gained 3-2 lead in the first chukker.
Ahmed Ali gave the losers 1-0 lead by scoring a field goal but soon Dhruvpal equalised banging home a field goal.
Asif Tiwana, top scorer for the losers with four goals, again put the bankers ahead 2-1 by scoring first. But Taimur Ali Malik struck back-to-back as Guard led the chukker.
The bankers managed to level the score 4-4 in the second chukker as Asif scored two more. Samiullah added for the winners.
Rice dominated the last two chukkers. Samiullah started the five goals spree, scoring his second before Dhruvpal scored four goals in a row to also complete a hat trick. Asif could score his fourth in the dying minute but only to reduce the margin.
Five goals by Hissam Ali Hyder led Bank Alfalah to 9-4 win over Army to gain third second. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana (2), Faaiz Rahim (1) and Taimur Mawaz Khan (1) were the other scorers for the winners.
For losers, Khurshid Ahmad (3) and Sufi Muhammad Amir (1) were the scorers.
