Police detain two sons of suspect

NOWSHERA, Jan 29: People of Badrasha locality on Sunday staged a demonstration in protest against what they called illegal detention of two sons of an alleged drug pusher by Nowshera cantonment police.

Police on Sunday raided the house of Dilawar in Badrasha area and on finding him absent took his sons Zewar Shah and Khanjad to the police station. The police party led by SHO Mir Qasim Shah also allegedly misbehaved with women in the house.

People of the area staged the protest demonstration led by Badrasha Union Council Nazim Malik Sikandar and chanted slogans against police.

The protesters said police had taken the action without taking the local nazim into confidence.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nowshera, Waqar Khan, and elected representative of the city went to the protesters and assured them that strict action would be taken against officials found involved in violating the law, after which the protesters dispersed.

DRUGS SEIZED: The intelligence squad of the excise and taxation department on Sunday seized 272kg of hashish and 1.5kg of opium from a car bearing a fake official registration number plate on the Grand Trunk Road in Nowshera and arrested a man.

The squad the car to stop on the basis of a tip but its inmates opened fire and fled, an official said. He said three suspects left the vehicle near the Lal Kurti intersection and escaped.

On searching the car, the squad seized 272kg of hashish and 1.5kg of opium.
