HEC to increase PhDs to 1,500

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is making strenuous efforts to enhance the country’s total PhD holders up to 1,200 to 1,500 per annum within four years.

Talking to PTV, HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rehman said currently the country was producing only 300 PhDs per year. About 1,000 scholarships were being offered to deserving students and about 500 students were being sent abroad for getting further studies this year, he added.

The chairman said efforts would be made to enhance the number of higher education seeking students up to 700 to 800 per annum.

About 50 to 100 students would be sent to Switzerland and 20 students to the University of Geneva for higher studies this year, he added.—APP
