US travel advisory

WASHINGTON, Jan 28: The US has cautioned its citizens to defer non-essential travel to Pakistan. Updating a March 2005 travel advisory, the State Department said Al Qaeda and Taliban militants, particularly along the porous Afghan border region, and other indigenous sectarian groups posed ‘potential danger’ to US citizens. The US embassy in Islamabad and consulates in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar continue to operate at reduced staffing levels.—AFP
