Sindbad poised to win feature event

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Jan 28: A tricky card of six-events awaits race-goers when the 22nd Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday. All events are to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1200m, the first race to be held at 12.30pm.

The distance of races has been brought down to 1200m to attract entries because the majority of races held last Sunday were gone over the middle distance of 1400m and 1600m as owners decided to give rest for a week to their horses.

In all, 73 horses accepted to run for six events, barring last-minute withdrawals.

The feature event, the Larkana Plate Class V Division I-A has a moderate field of 15 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

In the supporting and fifth race, the Larkana Plate, a Class V Div I-B, the nine-year-old Blu’s Wendy looks set to win the race. Poly Love, Chan, and Para Game will be his main rivals of the eleven contestants drawn for the event.

Three-year-old colt Nemroud is a cut above in class vis-a-vis his dozen rivals handicapped for the third race, Larkana Plate class V division II to be gone over 1200m.

Mera Chandiwala, Love Moon and Dancing Star may fight for less remunerative positions.

Owned by Khawaja Osman the colt, Nemroud is trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar.
