LANDI KOTAL, Jan 28: People of Loe Shalman have refused to allow anti-polio teams to enter their area in protest against loadshedding and faulty telephone lines. Local leaders had announced that anyone cooperating with the vaccination teams would be fined Rs10,000. They had complained that people of the area faced hours of power cuts.

They had announced that people would not pay their phone bills till faulty lines were repaired. A large number of telephone lines in the area had been non-functional for a long time, Duniya Gul, a resident complained. He said more that 100 applicants had been awaiting new connections for three years.

MAN KILLED: A man was killed and his wife injured on Saturday in a kidnapping attempt in Bara area.

Armed men barged into the house of Shahbaz Khan in Shalobar area and tried to kidnap him. Upon resistance, the kidnappers opened fire, killing Shahbaz Khan and seriously injuring his wife.

BODY FOUND: Bullet-ridden body of a teenager, Arshad, was found near the mausoleum of Amir Hamza Khan Shinwari.
