BAHAWALPUR, Jan 28: The Bahawalpur bench of the Lahore High Court has restrained the auqaf department from constructing a market adjacent to the historical Sadiq Mosque in the heart of city.
The order was issued on a writ petition filed by one Fazal Elahi Chauhan.
The petitioner submitted that the masjid committee in order to construct the main gate of the mosque in accordance with the wishes of the late amir of Bahawalpur had left the space open. The Dubai amir had allocated funds for the project which have not yet been utilized.
He said the TMA had also stopped the recovery of a tax from the vendors in an attempt to finalize the map of the mosque. But the auqaf, in violation of all the norms of the past, had started building a market instead of the beautification of the front door.
The high court, while restricting the auqaf department, admitted the petition for regular hearing.
In another case, the bench handed over a six-month child to his mother.
According to petitioner Nasim of Javed Colony, Bahawalpur, she had strained relations with her husband who took her child Rafiullah and proceeded to Sindh.
On the orders of high court, police recovered the child and presented before the court who handed over him to the petitioner.
