Yasir to meet Shafiq for top prize

KARACHI, Jan 27: Chinese Taipei-bound Yasir Khan booked his berth in the men’s singles final of the Sindh ranking tennis championship when he posted a straight sets victory over Rizwan Shamsi in the second semifinal on Friday.

After winning the first set convincingly 6-2, he overcame a stiff challenge from his opponent before emerging victorious 7-6.

He now meets M. Shafiq who had already advanced into the men’s singles final by winning the first pre-final the other day.

Upcoming Khawaja Hamza annexed the boys’ under-11 title when he got the better of Imran Mooraj 6-1, 6-0.

The boys’ under-13 title went to Adil Kohari who was stretched to limits by Muatafa Zaidi before winning the battle 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The juniors’ under-17 singles has reached the final stage after Syed Abbas Raja and Ghulam Abbas notched up victories over their opponents.

Raja prevailed over Jahangir Rashid 6-4, 6-3 while Abbas brushed aside Mateen Arif 6-2, 7-6.

Results:

Boys’ under-11 final: Khawaja Hamza bt Imran Mooraj 6-1, 6-0

Boys’ under-13 final: Adil Kohari bt Mustafa Zaidi 4-6, 6-1, 6-1

Juniors’ under-17 semifinals: Syed Abbas Raja bt Jahangir Rashid 6-4, 6-3, Ghulam Abbas bt Mateen Arif 6-2, 7-6

Men’s singles semifinal: Yasir Khan bt Rizwan Shamsi 6-2, 7-6.
