Construction of dams necessary for development: Soomro

JACOBABAD, Jan 27: Acting President Mohammedmian Soomro has said that dams are necessary for development of agriculture and economy of the country. He was talking to journalists at the town hall here on Thursday.
He said that all five dams including Kalabagh dam, Bhasha, Munda and Skardu would be constructed by 2016.
“The river water is very essential for the agriculture and for that purpose water reservoirs are very necessary,” he said.
Speaking about the NFC award and controversy created between the centre and provinces, he said the issue would soon be settled with mutual understanding.
Replying to a question about the army operation in Balochistan, he said the problem could be resolved through talks.
Earlier, speaking at a joint meeting of government officers of different departments and elected representatives on Thursday night, Mr Soomro said officials should serve the people without discrimination and provide basic facilities at their doorsteps.
He said that Jacobabad would be made a model city by rebuilding damaged roads and improving the drainage system.
The drainage system seemed to have been collapsed.
He also announced that a monitoring team of government officials and people’s representatives would be formed to look after implementations of plans and schemes.
District Nazim Begum Saeeda Soomro, Taluka Nazim Sajjad Jakhrani, DCO Rashid Mehmood, Asghar Ali Panhwar, Zulfiqar Sarki and DPO Munir Khuhro were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Mr Soomro addressing a meeting of nazims and councillors at the Mehran hall here on Friday, said that he wanted to serve common man without discrimination.
He assured that better health and education facilities would be provided to people.
He said that disposal of sewerage water and provision of potable water were big issues which would be resolved.
Replying to a question, Mr Soomro assured that the ARV and other drugs would be supplied to the Jacobabad civil hospital so that people could get benefit.
Woman councillor Naheed Soomro complained that female councillors were being ignored and they were not called to attend the meeting.
She demanded that women councillors should be given opportunity in decision making matters.
Mohammadmian Soomro inaugurated upgraded girls higher secondary school building at the KG school, blood bank and Ahmedmian Soomro memorial coronary care unit at the civil hospital and a road to be constructed at a cost of Rs1.5 million.
