Independent status for girls medical college

PESHAWAR, Jan 26: The provincial government has formally granted independent status to the Khyber Girls Medical College Peshawar and formalities are being carried out to get it recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

This was disclosed in a high-level meeting held with NWFP Minister for Health Inayatullah in the chair in the Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) Hayatabad on Thursday.

Secretary Health Abdus Samad Khan, Principal Khyber Medical College Dr Umer Ali Khan, Project Director Girls Campus Dr Ziaul Islam, director provincial health services academy, principal post graduate nursing college and faculty members attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed matters pertaining to the college, including recruitment of permanent teaching staff, purchase of equipment and provision of accommodation to the students.

The project director told the meeting that after getting independent status, the college was heading towards its recognition by the PMDC.

The project director said that the college students clinched top positions in the recently held 1st year examinations and majority of its students had got 1st position.
