KARACHI: Reforms in education, health deptts ordered

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 26: The government has taken notice of inordinate delay in the finalization of the Sindh education plan and failure of the health department to take necessary measures for implementation of reforms in the health sector.

The Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, has directed secretaries of both departments to provide time-bound road maps for completion and implementation of the Sindh health policy and education plan, which should be submitted to him within a week.

The chief secretary issued these directives at a meeting held on Thursday to review the Sindh Devolved Social Services Programme (SDSSP).

Capt (Retd) Abdul Kabir Qazi briefed the meeting on the progress of various projects including the Sindh health policy, Sindh education plan, and technical support plan to TMAs of taluka, tehsil and town and municipal administrations.

He also briefed the meeting on performance-based PFC conditional grants and accountability through council committees, service delivery system and other concerned projects.

Referring to the health department, the meeting was informed that the former had yet to implement reforms envisaged in the Sindh health policy. As such, the health plan remained incomplete while the education policy was yet to be finalised.

The chief secretary asked the secretary local government to promote SDSSP proposals through the cooperation of concerned departments so that work plans could be finalized.
