ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal filed by a drug trafficker and upheld the Lahore High Court’s verdict in which the convict was awarded life-term and fined Rs500,000. The bench comprising Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar and Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan heard the case and dismissed the appeal filed by the convict from jail.

Assistant Advocate General Punjab Raja Saeed Akram represented the state, while Niaz Rathore advocate, who was appointed as counsel for the appellant, did not appear before the court.

The convict, Mavaiz Ahmed, was arrested at Okara bus terminal carrying a bag containing more than 5kg heroin, 6kg charas and about 2kg opium. An FIR was registered against the accused by the Anti-Narcotics Force, Lahore.—APP
