ISLAMABAD, Jan 24: A deadly post-tea spell by paceman Umar Gul in which he snapped up five wickets earned PIA a 139-run victory in their Patron’s Trophy quadrangular match against PTCL at the KRL Stadium.

Umar broke a stubborn fourth wicket partnership between Asher Zaidi (66) and Amir Bashir (50) that produced 136 runs and then ran through the batting to bowl out PTCL for 239.

PTCL needing 379 runs for victory on the last day had resumed at the overnight score of 3 for no loss. But except for Asher and Amir no batsman could make any impression.

Umar who gave away 51 runs in his haul, bowled Amir with a perfect delivery to end a partnership that had gained a dangerous dimension.

Amir hit up seven fours and faced 119 balls while Asher whose scalp was snapped up by Kamran Sajid, stroked 10 boundaries.
