Thrilling victory for Windies

KARACHI, Jan 24: Skipper Leon Johnson slammed a superb hundred and spinner Richi Bachan grabbed four wickets in West Indies under-19’s thrilling seven-run victory over Pakistan under-19 in the second ODI at NBP Sports Complex on Tuesday.

The win helped touring side level the four match series 1-1 after having lost the first match by five wickets.

Inserted to bat first, West Indies recovered from 43 for two to be all out for 260 in 50 overs. Johnson hit 14 boundaries in his 114 not out off 127 balls.

Pakistan were bowled out for 253 in 49 overs with Bachan grabbing four wickets for 46.

Pakistan needed just 12 runs in last two overs but Jamshed Ahmed was run out for 20 off 23 deliveries laced with one six and a four. Jamshed added 42 runs for the tenth wicket with Imad Wasim, who finished with an undefeated 19 in 11 balls with two hits to the boundary.

Anwar Ali and Jamshed removed the West Indies openers while Jason Muhammad was bowled by Ibrahim for 13 and Imad Wasim got rid of Shamarh Brooks to reduce touring side to 130 for four in the 26th over.

But Johnson and Kieron Pollard repaired the damage and added 110 runs for the fifth wicket in 19 overs to take West Indies to 242. The visitors lost their five wickets for 12 runs. Polloard’s 65-ball 52 were studded with two fours and as many sixes.
