KARACHI: Autonomy for provinces demanded
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Jan 24: The Sindh National Party (SNP) has demanded autonomy for all provinces under the 1940 Resolution and an end to “state repression” in Sindh.
A resolution adopted at a party meeting presided over by its Chairman Amir Bambro stressed that the army should be kept away from politics and power should be transferred to elected representatives.
The SNP also demanded that the military operation in Balochistan should be stopped and right of ownership over their resources, which include the Gwadar Port, coastal areas and gas of the province, should be accepted.
The meeting stressed that the right of Sindh’s people over water of the Indus River should be recognized and the NFC award should be given to Sindh on the basis of its population and income. It criticized the government for “demolishing old villages” and called for granting lease documents to the villagers.
It termed the opening of the Khokarapar border a conspiracy to convert the Sindhi population into a minority. It also called for issuing work permits to the immigrants.
Earlier, speakers criticised the government for pursuing negative policies detrimental to the interests of the country.
