KARACHI: Notices issued in parking lot case
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Jan 24: The Sindh High Court issued notices to the provincial chief secretary, the district coordination officer of the city district government and the director of the Lines Area project on Tuesday in a petition questioning the construction of a car parking lot in the area.
The Lines Area Residents Committee submitted through Advocate Nehal Hashmi that the CDGK intended to raise a car parking lot in the Lines Area near M.A. Jinnah Road. An advertisement to contract out the work had appeared in newspapers saying that the lot would be constructed on plot C-6 measuring about 4386 square yards.
The petitioner association said the plot belonged to the Lines Area Rehabilitation and Development Project, which was set up by the government in 1982 to build small houses for the area residents putting up in temporary accommodation. The precious land comprised in the project area was to be utilized for raising construction funds. About 4,000 residents were awaiting permanent residential accommodation. They have made initial payments to the project.
A division bench, comprising Justices Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery and Maqbool Baqar, directed that preadmission notices be issued to the respondents for Jan 27 to ascertain their point of view. Bidding for the parking lot contract is scheduled for Jan 28 and 31.
