Adjournment motion on VIPs’ search in New York

ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: Opposition members on Monday submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat seeking discussion on the reported humiliation of members of the prime minister’s entourage at the hands of US security agencies at the New York airport.

The motion has been signed by 14 members of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), the Pakistan Muslim League-N and the Balochistan National Party.

It has been submitted under Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assem-bly 1992.

The motion states that it has been published in a section of the press that “elected members of the National Assembly, senators and even ministers, who were members of the prime minister’s entourage, were physically searched at the New York airport.

It adds: “This attitude of the US officials has caused grave concern among the general public, which needs discussion on the floor of the house adjourning the business of the National Assembly.”

The motion has been signed by Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar, Nawab Yusuf Talpur, Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Syed Nayyar Bokhari, Fauzia Wahab, Zafar Ali Shah and Naheed Khan of the PPP, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Khwaja Asif of the PML-N and Abdul Rauf Mengal of the BNP.
